In May 2026, Fuji Chimera Research Institute conducted a survey on the global market of 15 types of semiconductor devices with rising demand, particularly those for AI servers, and released market forecasts through 2031. The institute estimates that the market size will stand at 157.9 trillion Japanese yen in 2026, and is projected to hit 224 trillion Japanese yen by 2031.The survey covered 15 categories of semiconductor devices that power generative AI, edge AI, digital transformation and green transformation, along with 14 types of semiconductor-related materials, 3 kinds of semiconductor equipment, 3 other component materials and 4 major application sectors. The survey was carried out from December 2025 to February 2026.
Rising demand for semiconductor devices is mainly driven by server CPUs, AI accelerator chips, data center switch ICs, solid-state drive (SSD) controllers and various memory products including High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM). Notably, demand in 2026 is expected to surge by over 60% year-on-year, partly due to skyrocketing memory prices.
The market size of AI semiconductor devices is forecast to reach 40.7 trillion Japanese yen in 2026, while that of other semiconductor devices will amount to 117.1 trillion Japanese yen. Looking ahead, capital investment in AI and data center sectors is set to grow more robustly. By 2031, the overall market will reach 224 trillion Japanese yen, with the AI semiconductor segment accounting for 130 trillion Japanese yen, nearly 60% of the total market volume.

This report focuses on three core market segments: Memory (DRAM, HBM, NAND), AI Accelerator Chips and Data Center Switch ICs.
Driven largely by sharp price hikes, the DRAM market size is projected to nearly triple year-on-year in 2026. By contrast, production capacity is expected to grow by only around 10%. The supply-demand balance is set to improve starting in the second half of 2027, with prices forecast to drop back to 2025 levels. Accordingly, the DRAM market is estimated at 41.2 trillion Japanese yen in 2026 and will reach 23.3 trillion Japanese yen by 2031.
Fueled by mounting demand for high-performance AI servers, the HBM market is expanding rapidly. Robust investment in HBM production and the continuous increase of memory capacity deployed in devices will keep the market on a strong growth trajectory. Its market size is expected to hit 7.4 trillion Japanese yen in 2026 and 49.7 trillion Japanese yen by 2031.
The NAND market is also growing amid rising capacities of server solid-state drives (SSDs). In particular, enterprise SSDs (E-SSDs) primarily deployed in servers are expected to account for over 50% of total shipments in 2026. The market size is projected to stand at 41 trillion Japanese yen in 2026 and decline to 29 trillion Japanese yen by 2031.

Furthermore, the market for AI accelerator chips is projected to grow from an estimated 31.126 trillion Japanese yen in 2026 to 71.52 trillion Japanese yen by 2031. Likewise, the market of data center switch ICs is expected to rise from 1.49 trillion Japanese yen in 2026 to 8.435 trillion Japanese yen by 2031.
